At first the carnivore diet sounded like the best health tip I’d seen. Eating only meat, fish and animal products seemed simple and straightforward. People were raving it boosted energy, helped them lose weight and even fixed various health problems. I started spotting stories about it everywhere, even on forums like Carnivore Diet Almost Killed Me Reddit, where users shared both wins and hard lessons.

Curious, I gave it a go. I didn’t expect the carnivore approach to push me toward something that felt dangerous. Days passed and small warning signs showed up but I kept going. This is my account of how the carnivore diet nearly killed me and what I learned about balance, listening to my body and not ignoring warning signs, common sense.

High Hopes on Starting the Carnivore Diet

At the beginning of this diet, I was so excited about my diet. I stocked my fridge with meat, eggs and fish. The rules of this diet looked so easy that we only had to eat non-veg food and had to avoid all the plants, grains, and sugar. In the first few weeks, everything was going so well. The results in the beginning were also good.

I felt full of energy and even dropped a few pounds, my digestion seemed to settle down too. I honestly started telling myself, “this is it, I’ve found the perfect diet,” and got a bit overconfident. I brushed off small warning signs my body gave me, assuming it was just the keto-flu or a short adjustment phase.

The Point When Things Went Wrong

By the third week everything felt like falling apart. I had no energy and was tired almost all day. My skin got dry and rough, muscles ached all the time, and brain fog was so bad even simple work stuff was too hard.

Then the real problems started. After each meal I hurt my stomach. I felt dizzy and my heart was running. I tried adding more butter and fatty meat thinking maybe i wasn’t eating enough fat. But it only made things worse instead of better.

One night after a big steak dinner my breathing felt weird and hard. I got dizzy and my chest was tight. It was really scary. I realised I had been ignoring my body for way too long and it was a big mistake.

The Turning Point: A Wake-Up Call

I finally went to see a doctor and my fears got confirmed. My blood pressure was really high, I was dehydrated, and blood tests showed i was low on important vitamins and minerals. My kidneys were stressed too probably from eating so much protein and not drinking enough water.

Hearing all this was a big wake up for me. The carnivore diet I thought was making me healthy was actually making things worse. Doctor said meat is good for protein and stuff but not eating any plants can mess your body up. Fiber, vitamins and antioxidants from fruits and veggies are really important to stay healthy.

Lessons Learned

After the scary time, I slowly started eating normal food again. I left all grains, vegetables and fats like olive oil and avocado back. Drank lots of water and tried fixing electrolytes too. After some weeks I felt like me again. Digestion was better, had more energy and my mind felt kinda clear.

Looking back I see I made the mistake of thinking one diet fits everyone. The carnivore diet isn’t a miracle for all but might help some people for a short time. Everyone’s body is different and the work he works for another cannot work for another.

Conclusion

I will never forget what it felt like nearly dying from the carnivore diet. For me it was a disaster, but it might work for some others. I want my story to be a warning to someone about thinking about extreme diet. Always keep your health first and don’t be afraid to consult doctors. Your body will thank you for it.

  3. I love that you said everything isn’t for everyone.

I tried carnivore and loved it. I hydrated with good electrolyte, vitamins, and other supplements as needed.

Some would say your food has the proper nutrients, then research says food has less nutrients than when I was a child.

I think I will go back to carnivore with some veggies like onions and mushrooms with steak.

    1. Then you added veg. And spores. Gravy is allowed, but grain is forbidden. Oxymoron there. Thickener is made of grain. This diet will literally take your health in a bad direction. If a doctor recomends this diet! RUN! I would never harm my body with this cholesterol.

  4. Total bullocks. It can’t kill you, you were probably already sick before and probably not following it to the T. Total horse crap.

    1. I agree, absolute BS. Also, changing your diet too quickly can disturb your gut biome, which explains feeling sick. There is zero evidence that protein causes kidney disease, kidney function almost always improves on carnivore as does blood pressure. Your doctor knows nothing about nutrition, nothing.

  5. If you were dehydrated, it’s your own fault. We are supposed to get 8 glasses or more of water every day. If you were dehydrated at the time of the checkup you were dehydrated on your previous diet. And as far as the vitamin deficiency, there’s several articles and studies that tell you to supplement with vitamins to accommodate the lack of certain nutrients from the carnivore diet. It’s obvious you went into the carnivore diet unprepared, uneducated, and already depriving yourself of other important things that you were needing in everyday requirements of basic survival. So please don’t write up articles like this making yourself look bad because of bad personal decisions you inflicted upon yourself.

  6. SABRINA CARPARELLI

This is a fake, nothing described here is pointing to a near death experience. I felt much, much worse after my break up! Eating grains does not hydrate you, drinking water does. Any idiot Knowsley that.

  7. You said yourself that you were dehydrated and lacked vitamins and minerals. That’s the clear issue here. Hydrate well and add some electrolytes if needed. No need to go off carnivore.

  8. The problem with most people who embark upon the carnivore diet is that they do not eat enough FAT! The correct ratio is 20% meat protein and 80% animal FAT. All the symptoms described by the writer are typical of the condition known as “rabbit starvation”, which occurs if you do not include sufficient FAT. If one also eats the internal organs: liver, kidneys and heart, one needs nothing else for complete nutrition.

    Three weeks. What a joke.
Sign up to army. Last three days. Of be born in Africa you may be dehydrated. To get dehydrated in a western country. It’s because you lack the skills to drink enough water. That is readily available The internet is full of these self pity scoundrels. Like me I tried something now it’s like me I proved something trying to convince the masses of you periscope version of your own understanding. What a fool.
Do the research. Do the research. And read a bit more. Don’t put pen to paper until you can have enough knowledge about anything not to diminish. A good thing for people.
It’s saves lives. Reverses diabetes. Before the agricultural revolution the average human was over six feet tall. Average human lived lived a longer life expectancy.
Go enjoy your kfc. But don’t eat the fries. The fries are cooked in the tears of the children that worked hard and got a tad dehydrated working 20 hours shifts in the baking hot sun so your fries are extra crispy.

Is us stepping back in time 7 billion years waiting for us precious humans to evolve. and eating what we have can only eat. Anything man made is someone selling you a product for a price.since the primordial soup. Our bodies are genetically coded to eat what we are designed to eat.
